Self Help Center Services:

Consultation services:
Consultations are provided to assist individuals and self-help groups. Consultation services include:

  • Starting a a new group
  • Strategic planning
  • Grant writing
  • Membership recruitment and retention
  • Self-Help group needs assessment
  • Group dynamics and challenges

The workshops listed here have been developed by the Self-Help Center based on the needs identified by the Self-Help Group Facilitator Needs Assessment Survey conducted in the Fall of 2011.

Each workshop can be tailored to fit the needs of self-help and community group facilitors, as well as those who work with community organizations, community health, and community mobilization efforts.

The Self-Help Center will offer 3-4 workshops a year and groups or organizations can request a workshop at any time. For more information on workshops please contact the Self-Help Center Coordinator, Loralea Liss, at or call 217-352-0099.

Support Group Directory:

Specialized support group listings:
Specialized group listings are available for the following topic areas: Addiction and Dependency, Bereavement, Caregivers, Disabilities, Health, Mental Health, Parenting, Physical, Emotional & Sexual Abuse, Sexual Orientation, Youths & Students, and Others. Database of support groups:  
The Self-Help Center maintains an updated database of support groups in Champaign County and surrounding East Central Illinois communities, national groups, and groups in formation. The Center also has information on state-wide support groups and professionals available to assist self-help groups.

The Self-Helper:
The Self-Helper newsletter containing information and news relevant to the self-help community is published quarterly. Contact Loralea Liss at to be added to the e-mail mailing list. Also available by clicking on the link above.

Lending library
The Self-Help Center maintains an extensive library from the basics of self-help groups through specialized issues within self-help. All books are available to be checked out through the Self-Help Center. 

Educational packets
